Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism gives a person birth into new life in the Church. Jesus said that Baptism is necessary for salvation. He instructed his followers to: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” [Mt 29:19-20]. The rite of Baptism, which under ordinary circumstances is to be performed by an ordained minister (priest or deacon), consists in immersing the person or pouring water on his/her head three times while invoking the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The effects of Baptism are delivery from all sins, reception of the grace of divine adoption, being made a member of Christ’s holy church and a sharer in Christ’s mission of priest, prophet, and king.

At St. Margaret’s, Baptisms normally take place on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 2:00 pm. Parents wishing to have their children baptized must contact the rectory (781-272-3111) and make an appointment to see a priest and fill out the Baptism Registration form. This should be done at least one month prior to the desired date for the baptism.

Special Baptisms to be performed by a priest or deacon from outside the parish may be done at any convenient time by making prior arrangements with the rectory.
